When you feel the urge
to help someone
the very first thing to do
is to gently heal yourself.
Because when it comes down to it,
the only person
any of us can truly help
is ourselves.
What happens outside of us
is a reflection of what’s happening within.
Change something on the inside,
and the world around you
begins to shift.
As you slowly, gently heal,
the way you see people
the way you see life
quietly starts to change.
As your heart softens,
you begin to notice that
the same beautiful strength
you carry lives in others, too.
The same powerful creativity
that moves through you
moves through them.
The same deep love
that holds you up
is holding them, too.
So treat yourself the way
you’d treat someone dear to you.
Tell yourself,
“You’re doing just fine.”
“You’ve worked so hard.”
Speak kindly to yourself.
“You can take your time”
Let yourself slow down.
“You’re going to be okay.”
Give yourself a hug
with kindness and comfort.
Feed yourself something delicious.
Let yourself feel happy.
Stop ignoring your inner “no”
just to meet others’ expectations.
Stop putting others first
while forcing yourself to endure.
Stop trying to impress
by pretending to be something you’re not.
You are allowed to let it go.
Instead of asking
“what will people think?”
ask yourself
“what do I actually want?”
Does it feel good?
Does it draw you in?
Does it feel right?
Is it fun, exciting, joyful?
From here on,
Let those be your compass.
The person you once wanted to help
will begin to change
as you change.
And by then,
you yourself will already be different.
At that point, you will understand:
Watching over someone quietly
– that’s love.
Embracing both the positive and the negative,
fully and gently,
is love.
Trusting someone you love
even when their path looks hard
– that’s love.
Wishing happiness for someone
who has chosen a different path than yours
is love.
Choosing your own happiness
is love too.
And when someone attacks you,
instead of seeking revenge,
you can simply wrap them
in a quiet veil of love…
Just as all streams eventually flow
toward the ocean,
our destination is already set.
Over mountains,
through winding paths,
deep underground sometimes –
Where we are headed
is a peaceful world
filled with love and harmony.
So it’s okay to live with ease.
Right now,
we are all part of something vast –
a great current moving through the universe,
the current of healing ourselves.
Let’s keep growing,
together.
